Ghoulish Spoons
For a spooktacular Halloween craft, look no further than the humble wooden spoon! Children can recreate their favourite Halloween characters by first painting their spoon with ready mix paint or paints sticks. Once dry, choose from a range of materials, such as felt tip pens, crayons and wiggly eyes, and add in those scary features.
Hanging Bat
Little ones will love spooking others with this hanging bat creation! To make, simply paint a cardboard tube with ready-mix black paint and once dry, decorate with wiggly eyes and white paint. Using black paper, draw and then cut out the bat wings and bat ears, then attach to the tube using PVA glue and a glue spreader. To finish off, cut a black pipe cleaner in half and attach to the inside of the tube using PVA glue or sticky tape, to form the hanging legs.
Creepy Castle
For a house worthy of Count Dracula, all you’ll need is some cardboard tubes, PVA glue, scissors and paint. Draw and cut out some conical roofs and turrets using some additional card, and attach to the top of the carboard tubes with glue. To make a more solid structure, glue together the cardboard tubes and then paint the entire castle in black paint. For an aged effect, dapple the turrets and pointed roofs with some white paint.
Pom Pom Ghosts
It’s frightening just how easy these ghosts are to make! Using a single pom pom clasped in a peg, children can simply dab it in some paint and stamp away on a blank piece of card. Add some eyes and a mouth using another pom pom dipped in black paint or simply draw on the features with a black crayon, chalk or felt tip pen.
Spooky Stones
Forget tombstones – this Halloween we’re using regular stones for a scarily simple craft activity. All you’ll need is some ready mix paint and paintbrushes along with your materials of choice for the finishing touches. Choose from wiggly eyes, pom poms, felt tip pens, crayons and chalks. For some added sensory and messy play, let younger children decorate their stones using finger paint.
Light-up Ghoul
This light-up ghoul might be a little too cute to cause a spook! Using a plastic cup, simply cut out a small diamond shape half way down and insert the electric tealight by pushing the ‘flame’ through the hole via the inside of the cup. Add a face to the ghost using a marker pen and, voila, children will have their very own friendly ghost to take home.
Paper Plate Webs
This web-weaving activity will require a bit of hocus pocus and lots of focus! Start out by painting a paper plate with black paint and once dry, create some holes with a hole punch. Using string, children can spin their own web in whichever way they please – the perfect Halloween activity for developing those fine motor skills. To finish off, make some signature spiders using pipe cleaners and wiggly eyes.
Apple Print Pumpkins
Children can create their very own pumpkin patch using just apples and paint. Adults can slice up an apple or two, to make a collection of stamps, and let children loose with some paint and black paper. To make the pumpkins really stand out, try using some fluorescent orange and green paint.
